Introducing The Beautiful Bedlam Self-Advocacy Toolkit

Flat lay of The Beautiful Bedlam Self-Advocacy Toolkit — ADHD-friendly forms, notebooks, and pens on coral and cream background representing neurodivergent empowerment.

Science-backed tools to help every neurodivergent brain feel seen, supported, and understood.

Why Self-Advocacy (and Why It Matters)

Self-advocacy is the ability to understand your needs, communicate them clearly, and access the tools that help you thrive. For neurodivergent children—and the parents, teachers, and professionals who support them—that skill can change everything.

The Beautiful Bedlam Self-Advocacy Toolkit was created to make that shift possible—at home, in classrooms, and in workplaces—with forms and guides that bring science, empathy, and everyday practicality together.

The goal of the Self-Advocacy Toolkit is two-fold: 1) Get everyone comfortable with asking for what they need, and reframing this as something that is helpful for everyone involved, whether employer, caregiver, or professor. 2) Document that the request has been made.

What’s Inside the Toolkit

  • Daycare & Early Childhood Forms: Equip caregivers to understand sensory needs and communication styles.
  • Elementary & Middle School Forms: Help kids express what helps them focus and learn.
  • High School & Teen Forms: Encourage independence and self-reflection.
  • Professional Forms: Support neurodivergent adults in communicating strengths and needs at work.

Each form includes a science summary that explains why each question matters—translating research on executive function and sensory processing into plain language, with kid-friendly translations.

Rooted in Science, Written with Heart

Every tool in this collection is grounded in evidence-based research—from the Harvard Center on the Developing Child’s Serve & Return model to UNC’s Co-Regulation Framework and CHADD’s ADHD parenting resources.

  • Parents of neurodivergent children (ADHD, autism, sensory, or 2e)
